Sahih Muslim: 1162a

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

صِيَامُ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ أَحْتَسِبُ عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ
السَّنَةَ الَّتِي قَبْلَهُ وَالسَّنَةَ الَّتِي بَعْدَهُ

I seek from Allah that fasting on the
day of 'Arafa may atone (remove)
for the sins of the preceding and
the coming years.

The Muslim in Ramadaan

The Muslim in
Ramadaan
What should we say to the Muslims on the occasion of the beginning of Ramadaan?
Praise be to Allaah.
Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning), “The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’aan, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadan i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Sawm (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Sawm (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allaah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allaah [i.e. to say Takbeer (Allaahu Akbar: Allaah is the Most Great)] for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.” [al-Baqarah: 185]
This blessed month is a great opportunity for goodness, barakah (blessing), worship and obedience towards Allaah.
It is a great month, a noble season, a month in which hasanaat (rewards for good deeds) are multiplied and in which committing sayi’aat (bad deeds) is more serious than at other times. The gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of Hell are shut, and the sinners’ repentance to Allaah is accepted. It is a month whose beginning is mercy, its middle is forgiveness and its end is redemption from the Fire.
So give thanks to Him for the season of goodness and blessing that He has bestowed upon you, and for the means of bounty and various kinds of great blessings for which He has singled you out.  Make the most of this blessed time by filling it with acts of worship and forsaking haraam things, so that you may attain a good life in this world and happiness after death.
For the sincere believer, every month is an occasion for worship and his whole life is spent in obeying Allaah, but in the month of Ramadaan he has even more motives to do good and his heart is even more focused on worship, and he turns even more to his Lord. By His grace, our generous Lord bestows His bounty upon the fasting believers and multiplies the reward for them on this blessed occasion, so He gives abundantly and rewards generously for righteous deeds.
Time passes quickly.

Ramadan - Huqooq Allah Check List.
Ramadan - Huqooq al Ibaad Check List.

Ramadan - This word literally means “One that Burns” According to scholars, in this month the Sins are burnt away... therefore it is called Ramadan.

•The Month of Ramadan begins when the new Crescent is sighted on the 29th of Shabaan, otherwise it starts after the 30 days of Shabaan are completed.
•It is the month during which prophet hood was granted to Muhammad (sallalahu alayhe wasallam)
•Quran was revealed in this month.
•The Lailatul Qadr, the night which is better than a thousand months falls in this month.
•Battle of Badr was fought in this month
•Makkah was recaptured by the Muslims in this month.
•The doors of heaven are opened in this month and the doors of hell are closed.
•Devils are chained in this month.
•Mercy is poured down to Earth.

Fasting was prescribed on the previous nations also and is obligatory on the Muslims.

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.(Quran 2: 183)

The word “saum” is used for fasting in Arabic and its literal meaning is “to stop” or“to bring to a halt”. Thus it means to stop oneself from things which break the fast from dawn to dusk. F asting is obligatory on every adult, sane Muslim who has the ability to fast.

Fasting is only for Allah and its reward is only with Allah

The Prophet (saw) said, "(Allah said), 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it. (Bukhari)
Two Pleasures for a fasting person
Prophet (saw) said: “There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord; then he will be pleased because of his fasting."(Bukhari)

Allah loves the smell of the mouth of a fasting person

Prophet (saw) said, “Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk." (Bukhari)
Ar-Raiyan is a special gate in Paradise exclusively for those who fast
The Prophet said, "There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it.”(Bukhari)

Sincere Fasting and Night Prayers erases all past sins

The Prophet (saw) said, "Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."
The Prophet (saw) said: "Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven." (Bukhari)

Gates of Paradise are opened , Gates of Hell are closed and devils are chained

The Prophet (saw) said, "When the month of Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of the (Hell) Fire are closed, and the devils are chained."(Bukhari)

Superiority of Ramadan and Dhul-Hijjah

The Prophet (saw) said, "The two months of 'Id i.e. Ramadan and Dhul-Hijja, do not decrease (in superiority)." (Bukhari)
